Martyn, Vincent shine for ICL World in opener
HYDERABAD, April 9: ICL World outplayed ICL India by eight wickets in the first match of the ICL 20s World Series at the Lal Bahadur Stadium, Hyderabad on Wednesday night. A classic encounter was in store, with some promising Indian cricketing talents taking on a consortium of internationally acclaimed players but the home team failed to rise to the occasion.
ICL India captain R Sathish won the toss and elected to bat on a flat track expected to assist the spinners as the match progressed. In the end, it was the experience that helped the ICL World score a comfortable victory. Damien Martyn was declared Man of the Match.
The Indians opened their innings on a disastrous note with the score reading 9 for 4 at the end of the third over. Rohan Gavaskar & TP Singh then tried to resurrect the innings with a half-century stand before the former got out. Singh continued to score briskly and helped his team reach a respectable 141 for 5.
ICL World’s reply was given wings by opener Lou Vincent and Damien Martyn who went on scoring merrily. Vincent threw his wicket away but the winners reached home comfortably.
