The ESSEL group, headed by Subhash Chandra has formed a private cricket league, Indian Cricket League. In an effort to capitalize the cricket scenario in India and to encourage international level cricket among the young players the ESSEL group has formed the Indian Cricket League. ICL India is a Rs.100 crore project, which makes it the richest cricket league in the nation. Its headquarters is in Mumbai.
ICL intends to promote cricket in India. It is involved in the selection of talented young players from the entire country, training them and giving them a platform to display their talents. For this purpose, the ICL aims to set up academies all over the country. These young players would then be given a chance to compete with each other in the twenty20 matches of the ICL for prize money of $1 million.
ICL India is an effort on the part of ESSEL group to improve the standards of the game in future. Altogether 6 teams have been formed by ICL, which would later expand to 16 over a span of 3 years. These teams comprise of both national and international players. The teams would also comprise of a psychologist, physiotherapist and a manager.
ICL India also has an executive board which has Kapil Dev as its chairman and other officials like Kiran More, Tony Greig and Dean Jones. These officials are responsible for conducting the matches and for making innovations in order to improve the standards of the game. These ICL officials can give valuable inputs to the game due to their vast experience.
ICL intends to make India one of the most successful teams in the world in future. |
