ICL Match Reviews

Delhi Giants fall prey to the Lions from Chandigarh

In a match that was seen with good performances by few players, the Chandigarh Lions won over the Delhi Giants team by 34 runs. The Man of the Match was awarded to TP Singh who contributed 38 runs to score of the team on 36 balls.

The toss was won by the Lions and as expected, they took up batting first. Elliot and Vincent came out to open the innings with Shane Bond with the bowling attack. The match gradually gained pace as the batsmen started hitting fours and sixes. As seen their concentration was not much on the singles though. The power play was not made full use of and also, the wicket of Vincent was lost on his score of 20 runs. The innings went on with the players trying to maintain a run rate of over 7 in almost all the overs. By the end of 20 overs, Lions managed to put up a total of 153 for the loss of 6 wickets.

Gunawardene and Mishra came out to bat first after the innings break to represent the Delhi Giants. Gunawardene was lost before the end of second over. The players following him tried to hit some well-put shots. But after every few boundaries, we saw the batsmen leave for the pavilion. Only a couple of players of the team managed to take their scores in double digits with Bali contributing the maximum with 31 runs. Wickets were lost regularly and the last ten overs saw the loss of 7 wickets. No exceptional performances were seen from the teams in bowling but Chandigarh Lions managed to over power their competitors without much effort.

This is the first win registered in the tournament by the Chandigarh Lions. Let’s see what the future has in store for these players!
