Delhi Giants take on Ahmedabad Rockets

With Ahmedabad Rockets already having a win registered in their first match, confidence was certainly oozing out when the match started. Also, the Delhi Giants have just faced a defeat yesterday, so it was slightly speculative whether they would smart from their yesterday’s loss and have they done that! Giants defeated the Rockets by 7 wickets with 27 balls remaining.

Ahmedabad Rockets won the toss and opted to bat first. Hinds and Dholpure came in to open strike for the team. Dholpure could not stay for long and departed as the second over started on a mere score of 1 run. Hinds followed suit after just a couple of overs. The next man in, Goodwin also could survive just 3 balls and left. So it may be this early loss of three wickets that shattered the innings to a great extent. Singles and doubles were seen to contribute more to the score than a few occasional fours. Sodhi managed to hit a few good shots before the innings ended and the target of 108 was set for the Delhi Giants.

With a small target, there was practically nothing to hurry about for the Giants and they kept calm and runs kept coming in for the openers Gunawardene and Mishra. Only after the end of 10 overs did Mishra falter and gave away his wicket on the score of 18. Bali came in to support Gunawardene and both of these top-notch players made sure that runs were not a shortage without giving away wickets. The match ended with Gunawardene at 55 and Bali at 34, both of them unbeaten. DA Gunawardene was undoubtedly awarded the Man of the Match for his contribution to the score. Really good performance combined with stability was seen from the Delhi Giants.
