Lions of Chandigarh victorious against the Superstars
People watching the match between the Chandigarh Lions and the Chennai Superstars are sure to have felt the tension that was hanging in the air as the result came closer and closer. It was not until the end that one could say who is going to win. The match was close with the Chandigarh Lions winning the match with a very narrow margin of 4 runs. Chris Cairns was awarded the Man of the Match for his innings of 67 runs off just 32 balls.
The Lions were the ones to win the toss and bat first. Vincent and Elliot settled down on the field easily and started hitting the runs that seemed to come easily. Elliot was lost to Kumaran and was the first one to go. He scored 22 runs off 13 balls. Vincent however went to score runs and ended at 42. However, before him went off three other players; Sharma went without scoring, Singh who scored 9 runs and Mongia who could manage just 8 more. Cairns maintained the run rate and scored 67 runs. The total score of the team was 195 runs.
The team of the Chennai Superstars came in to bat with Harvey and Vignesh opening the innings. Both the openers made a worthwhile score of 58 and 42 runs. Except for these two players, only Sathish and Saravanan made some good runs for the teams. Banking upon the other players was just a disappointment for everyone. The middle and lower order batsmen made single figure runs for the team and because of this; the team looked as if it was not in the chase. However worthwhile effort was put in by the players who scored but all in vain. The team finished just 4 runs short and lost the match to Chandigarh Lions. |
