Indian film actress Celina Jaitley has accused Pakistani cricketers of making “cheap remarks” about her during an Indian Cricket League (ICL) match in Delhi last weekend. She could not identify the players, however.
The former Miss India said she could not identify the players because security guards surrounded her, but the organisers had told her they were Pakistani cricketers.
“I don’t even recognise any of them, and it is a bit upsetting. But I am trying to get over it,” she said.
Jaitley, who was a finalist in the Miss Universe 2001 contest, heard “nasty comments” when she was passing by the players’ enclosure, she told Indian newspaper Mail Today on Wednesday.
Some of the remarks were in “really bad taste”, she said, but refused to share them with the newspaper.
But some less abrasive comments she heard included, “Move her away, she is spoiling the mood of the entire match,” and “Why does she need such heavy security? Is she Osama Bin Laden?”
“I didn’t expect this from cricketers... The comments came out of the blue,” she said.
“It was an unfortunate incident,” Jaitley said. “Maybe it happened to me because I am an actress. I am trying to forget everything now.”
Born in Kabul, Celina has an Indian Punjabi father (a retired army officer) and an Afghan mother (a child psychologist).
