Mumbai, Apr 16 The rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL) is ready for a dialogue with the International Cricket Council (ICC) as and when it's called for a meeting by the world governing council for the game.
In a statement ICL's Business Head, Himanshu Mody, said "We have written to the ICC and have begun dialogues with them. Our objective is to promote cricket and there are certain issues of the ICC, which we are in the process of addressing." "In the event the ICC wishes to call us for a meeting, we are open to the same." Mody's statement came less than 12 hours after ICC's outgoing CEO Malcolm Speed revealed to reporters here that the world body for the game had received a letter from ICL 10 days ago, seeking recognition to the Twenty20 league bankrolled by the Essel Group.
"There are two parts to that. Until recently the ICL had never sought recognition from the ICC, so it never asked the question. About ten days ago lawyers acting on behalf of ICL contacted ICC and sought recognition from the ICC," Speed said this morning during an interaction with reporters.
"We are awaiting advice from our lawyers on that issue and I expect it within the next week or so (after which) we'll respond to the ICL lawyers," he added.
"The question never been asked is whether ICC will recognize ICL one way or the other. It's a fairly complicated legal issue and we are taking legal advice," Speed elaborated.
