SA ICL stars frozen out
May 8th, 2008
The head of the South African Cricketers Association has admitted that players taking part in the rebel Indian Cricket League have little chance of featuring again for their domestic franchises.
Andrew Hall, Johan van der Wath, Justin Kemp, Nicky Boje, Dale Benkenstein, Lance Klusener,
Nantie Hayward and Nic Pothas have all signed to play in the ICL - and been banned from playing in South Africa as a result.
Last week, Hall, Kemp and Van der Wath won a successful appeal against the England and Wales Cricket Board's decision to prevent them from playing county cricket.
However, despite the latter decision, SACA head Tony Irish says the players will remain unable to play in South Africa where there is no formal ban, but an agreement not to pick the players.
"There is an agreement among the various franchises not to select these players," he told Die Burger.
"
One cannot force a team to select anyone. Therefore, these players will not be selected until one of the franchises breaks the agreement."
